The Silly Frilly Shorts are just perfect for a special fun summer outfit. Mix and match fabrics to get the style you like and add bias, rickrack, braid or lace trims. The length is to upper thigh and there is an elastic pull-on waist. There are three rows of ruffles; these need to be hemmed or edge stitched. Alternately bias binding or rickrack can be used to finish the hem edges.

EXPERIENCE: Basic sewing skills and experience. The frills require extra care with finishing the hems, gathering and attaching. For a plain hem use a hemming foot attachment which will double turn the edge and give a neat finish or a serger/overlocker edging is perfect and easy to do.

FABRIC: Best fabrics to use are light weight cottons or poly cottons; poplin, homespun and similar fabrics. I used a variety of fabrics in my samples. For the cooler weather you can use pin-wale corduroy, velvet or lightweight denim.

SIZES: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 to fit girls 1 to 10 years. Always check the size chart before you start. Waist, Hip and Height measurements are the best guide for selecting the correct size for your child.
