Shorties are easy and inexpensive to make and are a far better design than the store-bought versions. You can choose your colours to suit school or sport uniforms; plain darker colours are best for school and use bright colourful prints for playtime wear. Shorties have a double crotch gusset for comfort and this allows for them to be worn without additional under briefs. The Shorties waist band sits comfortably below the natural waist but not down on the hip. The leg length is generous; I find the store-bought versions are often too skimpy in length.                                                                                      

Sizes: The pattern comes in sizes 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14. The sizing is very flexible due to the 4 way stretch fabric; you will find that size 2 should fit 2-3 years, 4 = 4-5 years          

Fabric: It is essential to use a 4-way stretch fabric with approximately 50% stretch on width and length. Cotton/lycra or cotton/elastane are the best fabrics to use as they have a high cotton content making them comfortable to wear; avoid using synthetics.                    

Experience: Advanced beginner with a little experience or practice sewing knit fabrics.    

Other: For best results it is essential to use a stretch stitch setting on a plain machine or alternately to use a serger/overlocker to sew the pants. Always use a ballpoint needle to sew knit fabric.
